Olive Sandwiches! Seems like a strange name? Or conjures up a strange taste in your mouth?
Actually naming the company Olive Sandwiches is in dedication to the memory of my mother, Carolyn Rider.
She was a gourmet cook, appreciated haute cuisine and would drive 50 miles just to get the best dinner rolls or pastry from her favorite bakery. And she made the best apple pie, which I could never quite successfully duplicate!
Toward the end of her life, when she was terminally ill with a deblitating condition called pulmonary hypertension, we would try hard to get her to eat and she'd just say "no" to many of her previous favorites. But one thing she always said "yes" to was an olive sandwich! I guess they reminded my mom of her childhood and so she'd ask for olive sandwiches every day!
Of course, she'd make us cut the crust off because she had to eat that when she was a kid. So she would firmly declare, "I don't have to eat the crust anymore!"
She also loved beautiful things and collected not only unique items but also unique "words of wisdom". So I've dedicated my company, Olive Sandwiches, to those same pursuits of wisdom, beauty and all the little things that make life truly unique and worth living.
Although she probably would be too reserved (and classy) to say some of the things on these designs, she would very likely get a twinkle in her eye and say "Oh, Nancy Jane!".
If you find something here that touches your heart, or makes you laugh . . . or just makes you think about things a little differently, my mom would be pleased.
